Rosa Blooms is the enduring, inspirational
story
about a wild shrub living in the Flatiron Mountains of Boulder, Colorado who doesn't realize who
she is and spends months going unnoticed. Rosa longs to follow the sun and moon across the sky, to
collect acorns like the chipmunks, or to build a home in a tree like the woodpecker -- to be
anything other than herself. After becoming despondent in the cold dead of winter, she finally
blooms and becomes recognized and loved for the wild rose she was born to be.
While being factually accurate with regard to the normal germination time for a wild rose and to
the species of animals and birds that live in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado, this timeless
tale also teaches children about discovering their own unique gifts and offering them in service to make the world a more beautiful place.
This is a delightful story about Rosa's process of self discovery. It touches upon many
emotions: wonder, envy, longing, frustration, excitement, and happiness. Through Rosa there is
much to learn about the rhythm of nature in the Flatiron Mountains of Boulder, Colorado. My
four-year-old loved the story and drawings, while I was moved at a deeper level. "Rosa Blooms"
made me laugh, ache with empathy, then cry with joy as she finally learns her life's purpose.
It is a wonderful book with appeal for any age.
